Course Description:

How would it feel to star in some of the greatest films in cinema history? To play Michael in The Godfather? The Gunslinger in A Fistful of Dollars? Or 007? Let’s go back in time and approach these scripts as if you were cast in these iconic rolls.

This class will examine several classic films and challenge you to bring your own perspective on some of the most fascinating stories in film history. You’ll learn how to prepare and analyze a scene, create a character, and and build relationships using some of the most culturally and historically significant scripts of the 20th century.

Please note that part-time studies do not constitute career training.

  • “I recently attended Scene Study – Classic Films.  It exceeded my expectations, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in both classic film, and the interpretation of film scripts in general.  Our instructor, Kara Flanagan, along with our Teaching Assistant, were engaging, and ensured that all participants were included and supported.  As I had previously looked at scripts from the perspective of stage acting, this offered a fresh and transferrable way of diving into a script.  As a wonderful side benefit, it was fun with lots of laughs!”

    – Julie Gray, Actor

  • “I really enjoyed this class- a fun, low-stress way to hone one’s acting skills, either for a new actor who’s just starting out, or an experienced actor seeking to expand their repertoire or refresh their skills.  I particularly appreciated the variety of material we worked with, from different genres and styles.”

    – Anton Brakhage, Actor
