How would it feel to star in some of the greatest films in cinema history? To play Michael in The Godfather? The Gunslinger in A Fistful of Dollars? Or 007? Let’s go back in time and approach these scripts as if you were cast in these iconic rolls.

This class will examine several classic films and challenge you to bring your own perspective on some of the most fascinating stories in film history. You’ll learn how to prepare and analyze a scene, create a character, and and build relationships using some of the most culturally and historically significant scripts of the 20th century.

Kara Flanagan, Instructor, is a co-founder of VADARTS and is pursuing a PhD in Education Studies at the University of Victoria. Her passion for scene study stems from her interest in acting across genres and formats. Her acting training began in Canada and she later studied full-time in NY and London. Kara is a Canada Council Award winner, and enjoys a love of not only acting, but also writing, directing and music.Mason Hollis, Teaching Assistant, is a recent graduate of VADARTS. During his time at VADARTS, he has appeared in a student product of The Laramie Project and worked on plays including Henry V, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Antigone, and Waiting for Godot. Mason recently starred in the play, Batman in the Park, produced by the Victoria Fringe Festival. Mason has a strong interest in classic film and is excited to be working on some of his favourite films.
